I am having a problem with my laptop with Vista Home Premium on. When I launch any web browser it does not load any of the pages. I have tried both Internet Explorer and Firefox. My Mail is also not sending or receiving mail. But I do have internet access.

When I go into command prompt I can ping any address, but the mail and web browser do not allow me to do anything.

I have run a virus scan and all has come back fine with NOD32. I am currently running a malware scan with Malware bytes, but just want to check if there is anything else I should check before I resort to reformatting the laptop.

I'm thinking something to do with Firewall or Internet Options but it depends on your connection setup which you haven't provided.

Completely disable the firewall and try again to see if there is something there causing it.

As far as Internet Options concerned in control panel locate Internet Options. Make sure Automatically Detect Settings under Connections - LAN button is checked. If you work through proxy server then you need to fill in that part as well otherwise everything else must not be ticked.

You could also try unchecking IPv6 in TCP/IP properties of the LAN or Wi-Fi Connection you are using :p

Last shot would be enable Network Discovery in connection settings. It seems many have lost their Internet Connection with this disabled.

If you suspect malware then enable hidden files and folders in Explorer, make sure to untick Hide Protected OS Files. Locate C:\MaD hidden folder (Little Malware that disables your Internet Connection after a few minutes). Shift-Delete in safe mode. I have seen this little thing many times for some reason :/ also try spot other suspect hidden folders in C:\ but you must know which ones are not suspect and which are not.

Hope this helps :)

After disabling Firewall, anti-virus, and anything else that could...found out that for some reason the problem was uTorrent which didn't know was installed on the laptop. Uninstalled uTorrent and now it seems to be working al fine. Strange

That is very weird. Other than opening some ports in what way does uTorrent affect Internet? unless it was using so much bandwidth you simply could not access anything else lol - maybe you were seeding too much? or your ISP was not happy with you using P2P :p , anyway glad it is sorted :)

It was very strange. I wasn't even using uTorrent. When the PC started up, I could see on my mail server logs that it was sending out to a bittorrent address. So I could ping out and everything. But no web browser would work. I tried on two different ISP accounts. So it couldn't be the ISP. Once I had uninstalled uTorrent, everything worked fine, so have no idea what it was.
