Ok, need help with what could be wrong?

I switched on my PC, while the windows bar was loading my pc froze and restarted itself...

Well after that nothing happened, i turn my PC on, all the fans are running but the screen stays off and the fans keep running on full speeds, mouse & keyboard has power but the pc does nothing, I have to manually turn my PC back on...

What could be wrong?

You could try opening the case and clearing the CMOS by taking out the Battery or by using the jumper

My bet is on: PSU blew because it was too weak.

Did your PC restart sometimes without reason? Or did your PC sometimes have trouble starting up?

Does the boot up screen come up before your screen goes off? If so, could be that your graphics card is the problem. The connections maybe loose or it could be damaged.

What were your symptoms before this happened? Were you experiencing any sudden shut downs while you were using your pc? I had the same problem whereby my initial boot up screen would come on, and then the pc would jus go mental and the fans would be running at full speed and the monitor used to go into standby mode saying there was no signal. It turned out that my graphics card was loose:rolleyes:

first unplug the 24 pin mobo power connector, reseat your memory and gfx card, unplug all other devices you may have like pci cards and slave drives, connect mobo power. if it still doesnt work, try diff psu. once u get it to work, might be a good idea to go into windows setup recovery console and do a chkdsk /r.

Ok, found the problem, one of my PCI slots are faulty..
Switched my GFX onto the other slot and its working perfectly now, even checked the backside of the mobo but didnt see any burn marks, think im gonna send it back for a new one...

Thanks for all the help guys, really appreciate :)

oh great. did you by any chance plug it back into first slot after it worked on the second one..just to make sure?? weird shyte like this happens all the time. a reseat sorts it sometimes..

can't be windoze drivers. he cant even get past POST.

My bet's on:

1) Old GFX
2) Old psu
3) corrupt windows drivers - try get into safe mode

1) 8800GT
2) 550W Coolermaster
3) If I could only get to the point to select safe mode :)

But its all sorted, im gonna try the PCI slot again today, maybe it works again :)

By the way, I tested my PSU and looks like its got a problem, which PSU would you guys recommend?

How can I determine the size of the PSU needed for my PC? :p

Maybe try this PSU power calculator to see what you need...

Also take a look here for some info...

Nice guide.

Coolermaster is a good brand.
I've got a 8800GTS running on a cheap (proline) 500W psu without any probs. According to nVidia you need min 400W for the 8800. So I'd say anything 500+ will do.
