Hey everyone sorry its take no long to reply, reason is I did a complete fresh reinstall of windows xp proffesional (I didn't format my hardrive though). I then set about reinstalling all my drivers and apps pretty confident everything would work again, and low and behold, it didnt    . So that was a complete waste of an evening.

Ok I have tried several older driver packagaes and they dont seem to help, but at this point I'm just about willing to download and try every single one. I was wondering if someone could help me out cause of my limited knowledge, I have heard people have similar problems when something called "fast write" is enabled, but I checked my bios and there isn't even a "fast write" optinion in it. (unless im going to the wrong bios, the one where you press delete in the beginning?) So does the GeForce 6600 have "fast write" capabilities?

Secondly, in my bios the graphics card is set to the PCI slot, shouldn't this be AGP, and at what speed should it be set?

Thirdly, I just looked on the tweaks R us site and their nVidia forceware drivers, they have different sets for 32bit and 64bit? Seeing as I'm running a 64 bit Athlon shouldn't I download the 64 bit versions, on the Nvidia site there is no thing for 64 bit.

And lastly I've heard what im seeing described as artifacts, except that in most cases its only one or two things whilst in mine just about everything is an artifact?

Oh ya my card isn't overclocked.

Well I hope this info helps to get a solution, thanks for helping a guy out, I really do appreciate it :D

ok my man firstly do yourself a major favour

stop telling us you have this and you have that

you will do this:

you will go to that site gary gave and download the 32 bit version of their latest drivers which is 84.20 for 32 bit windows
i dont think your running windows 64 bit

now if those drivers do not work, you have got a hardware problem

most likely your vga card is busted, take it back and get it tested or swopped out

good if they do not work, then you know this problem is not software related

HOT TIP:

get the driver cleaner from www.guru3d.com

Run the driver cleaner and remove NVIDIA files after removing NVIDIA drivers

reboot

install new drivers

reboot

voila

Ok tried all of the above, but it still isn't working. Does that mean the graphics card is gone? Its less than a year old and I don't overclock anything? And why can I play quake 4 with no problems if it is broken? Its soo frustrating.

Hey bro, ask a friend if you can't lend his graphics card, put it in your pc and see if the games work, then you can narrow it down and see if it is your graphics card. I highly doubt it though, since direct3d tests work.

Have you got a friend with an agp graphics card?

ummm yea didnt see the post about quake working fine

dopnt you have onboard vga

wont play bf 2 very well but should cop on low low settings

when u installed the drivers did you remove the vga card then reboot then load the drivers?

you said looking back it also happens in championship manager
both ea games?

try going into your bf 2 folder and reinstalling directx 9c again

if all else fails, reload again and then install the xtreme g drivers do not install your anti virus turn off the firewall and see if it works

if its still not working take it to a computer shop and ask them to run some tests for you

I just checked my drivers for my onboard VGA, which I know I have, yet it has a yellow sign with an exclamation mark and says there is no driver installed? Is it just me or should there be a driver there by default? Where do I get that driver and could it be causing the problem?

Championship manager is BGS not ea, so its quite a generic problem it seems.

Your onboard vga driver should be on your motherboard cd. I doubt that's the cause of the problem, but you can install it and see if the problem goes away.

It's not common that onboard drivers are part of windows, so no, it shouldn't be there by default.

i was suggesting trying to load bf 2 up with your onboard vga, see if it worked

depending what onboard it is it should work at very very low res :)

OK i think I've come to the conclusion my graphics card is messed up, about 10 min ago I was able to play BF2 for about half an hour on the bare minimum settings, as soon as I upped the resolution and upped the graphics it went nuts again, turned it back down and its still messed up. So ya, anyone else think it is gone... warrenty here I come!

I agree with you :) It could be a heating problem aswell, check your cpu temperature before and after gaming, but I'd say it's a safe bet that the graphics card is busted.

ok.. this is the problem.. the motherboard ...

gigabyte made a mess with a whole lot of boards being incompatible with many 3d accelerators.. your board will probably do this with alot of other geforce's and radeons

they have recently been releasing bios updates for the boards that do resolve the issue.. however its not 100%.. i had to get a bios off some japanese gigabyte place to get rid of the problem.

go look for your board on the net and see all the different bios's for it and whats they are fixing.. and try the jap/taiwan sites aswell.

also when playing and things get funky... tab out the game and tab back in and all should be normal again.

desktop-settings-advanced settings-troubleshoot- "disable write combining "also helps a bit
