So after 6 months of excellent Telkom 3G experience, my first problems started.
On Friday afternoon I connected to the service using my E270 modem and after a while the internet wouldnt work, but the modem was still showing that is was connected. I disconnected and tried to reconnect, and even though the modem showed it had signal, I get an error 619 when trying to connect. After a couple of attempts to connect, the signal disappeared. Both the mobilepartner software and the modem's indicator lights showed no signal. So I phoned the Telkom 3G call centre (the call was answered immediately btw). The techie told me try the standard things like rebooting, unplugging the modem, taking out the simcard etc. But couldnt help me, saying it must be a software issue on my side.
I then tried to connect with an MTN sim card, and no problems, but still could not connect to Telkom. I uninstalled the MTN fastlink software I used and then reinstalled that. Then I had signal again, connected, the internet worked, but same thing happened after a minute or so. I realised that the problems started as soon as the modem switched from HSDPA to HSUPA. So I was on the phone again to Telkom on Saturday, this time the guy reported a fault and I have since received an sms saying that a techie is investigating.
I haven't heard anything since, but I have now wondered if there isn't a problem with the modem, because straight after uninstalling the dashboard software and reinstalling, I get a signal again, it connects, but as soons as it swithces to HSUPA signal, the crap starts?
I have also tried updating the modems firmware and using Huawei's own Mobile Partner software instead of the MTN Fastlink Software that I have been using, none of this solved the problem.
