Hi

i was hoping someone could assist me with either sorting out the problem or gmail supports contact details please.

I am trying to create a gmail account for my son. when i create it it tells me the email account already exists. As his name is quite unique, the likely hood of his name and surname being used in conjuration by someone else is highly unlikely.

never the less, I think tried to see if i could do a recovery in case i had already created the gmail account and forgot. I went to forgot password option and account recovery option and in both instances get told to enter a valid e-mail address.

So if the address exists when trying to create and it does not exist or is invalid when trying to recover acc or password what could the problem be.

Please help

thanks

Gmail doesn't like very simple usernames anymore (for quite a few years now), so they force you to add letters and numbers.
My guess is that it has something to do with avoiding spammers, who test randomly generated accounts against brute force password hackers.
But that is just a guess. I've gotten that message many times though, and I know for a fact that I never created those names.
Just keep playing around with the combinations, eventually you will get something acceptable.

It already exists. You don't have the recovery email so it does not belong to you. Choose something else.

So many Androids in the world today.

Thank goodness I got my gmail account back when it was invite only...

You're being told to enter a valid email address because the email address you're entering doesn't match the one google has on record for that email address...the email address that likely belongs to someone else.

Sign up with a different name.

Same.
When I signed up my first name was actually available but being a dumbass I was going through a phase where I didn't like my name so I opted instead for some other crap. Oh how I wish I'd just chosen my name :(.

It does not exist, as mentioned when i click forgot password for example and provide the account name that is supposedly taken it tells me to no such e-mail account exists.

when i goto https://www.google.com/accounts/recovery/ it tells me the same thing

If the account exists and I do a password recovery it would tell me that a reset or recovery e-mail has been sent. It does not even do that which leads me to believe that the email address does not exist.

No way of me being able to contact google for support?

*You* have to enter the alternate email address before a recovery email can be sent, which you do not have because you do not own the address.

You can't use the account you are trying to recover the password for as the recovery e-mail address.

If you can provide some more detail, though, as it does appear that you are trying to create an email account that simply already exists in Google.

Thanks for the response, What further detail do you require?

Hang on... Richochet when you follow that recovery link, which option are you first selecting? "I don't know my password"? If you're choosing that and it's then telling you "No account found with that email address." then... er admit defeat and move on :erm:
