has anybody had major problems downloading large messages from GMail lately? It is killing me. I get lots of messages of about 500KB to 1MB and I cant download them with outlook. Each time I try, outlook just times out. I have set the timeout to 10 minutes already, and still no luck.

Is this maybe a problem with some new shaping protocol that WBS has deicded to implement, since GMail runs on secure POP3 on port 995. Any workarounds? My other email works fine, no matter how large the files are, but that runs on normal POP3 port.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

I suggest

Use forwarding in Gmail - have all your mail forwarded to your other address and then download them there on the regular port.

Login to gmail and go to settings - Forwarding/POP

Cheers

I have the same problem with my wife's GMail->Outlook 2003. However, my GMail->Thunderbird 1.5, although it times out initially, does eventually work itself out.

EdR, sometimes forwarding doesn't fulfil the purpose of having 2 email accounts, as in our situation. I only have my iburst address to forward to. Any other ideas?

I had the same problem, hugely frustrating. Luckily I use nukecap's payVPN proxy, although slow for some reason (which sux), it doesn't time out and I could at last download my 10mb of emails that accumalated in my inbox.

I am having the same problem, see other thread in this regard. Have spoken to them, they have come out, they have blamed it on IS international link being down, said they would put an incident on their page but have not. Now I wander where the new IBurst rep. is on this forum (See article 'WBS jacks up support')

hhhm, well the forwarding kind-of defeats the purpose of having a gmail account. the only reason I moved to GMail is that my previous email service notified me that they were going to only provide POP access to paying subscribers, and they just haven't as yet implemented the system.

Now I am pretty sure that it is a iBurst issue, and have asked Shaun Green to try and sort it out. well any case guys, thx for the help.

Recently had probs too, then checked settings against what gmail states it should be and had to change mine, now fine...

The reason you're having problems is since gmail is downloaded using a secure port. refer to the thread no international bandwith on ssl and https. Perhaps we can get enough people bugging iburst that they finally admit that they have a problem and actually do something about it !!!!! this has been going on for weeks

I just got word from a bud using dial-up that he also has problems with timeouts with Gmail mails above a certain size.

My 2c.

hhhm,Raithlin, what you are saying sounds a bit wierd, caus I used to DL the same amount of mail from gmail for about 3 months now and never had a problem. i mean, 500-600kb messages did sometimes take a while, but they actually get downloaded. now even 200kb messages are a mission to get a hold of.

We're talking the +500KB size mails that are timing out. His wife can't get her lady-mail down - highly frustrating, I'd imagine. All those .ppt, .doc, .mpg files waiting to be seen. :D

Anyhow, I'll take my terminal across tomorrow and see if I can help. Hopefully SG has managed to do something by then.

It's also not working so well for me, unfortunately. I'm running thunderbird.

hhhm, haven't had as many problems this month, maybe due to the fact that I am uncapped. Got 3.2MB of mail yesterday without a hitch, and was pleasantly suprised. well any case, hope they really sort this issue out by about the 15th, when i get capped again.

I have now had this problem for 3 weeks and in spite of the best efforts of Shaun Green, I can still not download a mail with 3MB attachment. Anyone else?

hhhm, gimli, that is a tad wierd. I have managed to DL emails that totaled more than 3MB, I think that it was 5 messages in total, and combined they were about 3.4MB. downloaded first time. maybe it does help a lot when the messages are smaller, but yeah...

They must really sort this problem out, i have got 600MB left, and dont wanna be stuck with webmail for the rest of the month :(

After it being ok for a week or two I am sad to report that the downloading of Gmail issue is back again.

Had the same problem and uninstalled office and reinstalled, now works great. Wonder if it is an outlook problem or gmail ??
