Hi guys, this is a bit lengthy so please bear with me.
I'm wondering if someone could please help me. I recently gave Downstorm a go to see what it's like, so far so good, or that's what I thought.. I currently have a 4mb line and using Mweb's 4mb uncapped shaped account, when I started downloading from Downstorm via http I could never get over 40-60kbps on files that are over 2gb. All files under 2gb (not exactly 2gb but around there) downloaded perfectly. This was while using free download manager. I gave lots of other popular download managers a go and most of them gave the same results. What's causing the problem is segments, the file is split up into 8 or so segments and each segment makes a new connection to try get the fastest speed possible, these downloads connect to the first segment fine but as soon as it tries to create another things go pear shaped. I've gotten errors like "file size has changed" and "Server does not support download resuming." (Which it does).
There were two download managers that did download at full speed though, and connected to more than one segment. However, when these downloads completed they were ALL corrupt. Unexpected end of archive errors on rar files, and videos would only play till about 40-50%.
I thought it was maybe my computer, so I took my PC to a friends place that also has a 4mb line. I loaded my mweb account on his router and what do you know, the files download at full speed and are not corrupt in any way when they finish. These are the same files from the same links I tried previously that came out corrupt when downloaded from my place.
Next I tried replacing my router with a friends one that I know works fine with Downstorm. Still no luck. He then brought his computer to my place and attempted to download the same file, same problem as my PC.
I decided to try downloading a large file from a different server, it downloads fine at my place.
So this is my conclusion so far, it's not my PC, it's not my router, it's not Downstorm (as other's can download the same links without any problems), it's not the download managers (same settings on the same pc works fine on a different line), it's not Mweb (tried a Telkom account and still same issue)
The only thing that has stayed constant from what I can tell is my line. But, if it is my line, why do I not have any problems on anything else? Gaming works fine, torrents work fine, browsing works fine, steam works fine, segmented http downloads work fine from other servers.
So yeah, this is were I'm stuck at the moment. I've tired everything I can think of, even got Telkom to reset my line and ports. I've got a Telkom tech guy coming around sometime this week to test the line, but other than that, what else can I do?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
