Is anyone else experiencing dropped packets and internet issues on SAIX? I can't do anything on the internet (on my GPRS link now) - Telkom reckon it is a nationwide problem - however I don't see any other messages on the board talking about this. The issues started at around 2 or 3PM this afternoon.

Thanks guys, I guess I will just have to wait for it to come right, and just swallow the fact that Telkom are a state run company - or at least act like one, and will just have to deal with the fact that they can do anything they want, then they want.

General Network Fault - Rynfield/Benoni exchange

I've had major trouble connecting since about 14h00 today (19/01/2006). After going through the usual rigmarole of prooving my setup and hardware is not at fault Telkom gave me the runaround (go away, it's your ISP not Telkom) and refused to give me a reference number. After commiserating with MWEB I reset everything - reboot the router, the modem, the PC. Still no joy - major packet loss and terrible connections (most of the time I can't load a page, yet sometimes it does (about 15% of the time) partially. 25% to 75% packet loss on pings to mweb / saix etc.)

At 16h30 I call our lovely & useless Telkom and eventually beg them to log my fault. They do with the provisio that I will be billed for a call out!! (Imagine - every time in the last 2 years (probably 6 times by now) they make a stuff up or hardware fails on their side and have to sort out a DSLAM it's sorry about the inconvenience - BUT NO REFUND FOR LOST TIME - but when they think It's my fault it's PAY PAY PAY?!??)

Anyway I called them at about 22h00 and they now confirmed a General network fault in the Rynfield/Benoni exchange. Go figure....

And another day of non-service ... Buster I hope you get sorted soon - perhaps we have the same problem. Good luck!

Miles_V - After further pressing with Telkom it appears that it appears that we do have the same problem ... I am out of Farrarmere. Hopefully we have some better luck tomorrow. Thanks for the reply Miles_V!

Yup - Northmead part of the world also had major issues. Had to give up doing all the urgent work i had to do - and went and had a sleep.

But how can they not know when an entire exchange goes down??? I thought they had a fully monitored and managed network

Hmmm, I'm so glad I'm not the only one. At least browsing semi-works today. Been up the whole night trying to update 2 linux boxes. Feel like breaking a hat in Telkom's bum.

Oh well, its now 6:31, and I'm off to bed to let these machines munch on whatever might or might not come down...

Being in Farrarmere sucks today...

My torrents are running @ full speed, but the mail server seems to be down.

Tonight seems to be a little better - but still dropping packets. I hear that the Telkom guys will be working on this at the Benoni exchange on Sunday - hopefully this sorts our problems out for good. Yep, being in Farrarmere for the past 3 days has suked!

Telkom seem to be causing more problems than they fixing

Internet was dead, Local and International from around 2am this morning - have no idea when it came right again...

I have not noticed any problems today, below are my current readings for a 384 line.

Download time: 8.718 seconds
Size of file: 500 KiloBytes
Estimated line speed: 468 (kilobits/second)
Estimated line speed: 57.4 (kiloBytes/second)

But it may change at any time, we are talking Telkom so anything is possible.

Well heres one - i am getting a pop3 error on both my telkomsa email and my website email - i am now trying to explain to the call center lady (whom i think went to go and make a cuppa coffee as i have been holding for 10 mins) that there is a problem with the server as it is blocking pop3 access
