4 Devices: iMac (Yosemite 10.10), Macbook pro (Yosemite 10.10), iPad (4th Gen)(IOS8.1), iPhone (5s)(IOS 8.1).
All connected on same wi-fi network.

Text messages and iMessage work perfectly on all 4 devices. Can send and receive text messages on all 4.
FaceTime calls work perfectly on all 4 devices. All 4 can make and receive FaceTime calls.

Problems:
Normal incoming cellular call my iPhone, Macbook and iMac will ring. iPad not.
When making a normal cellular call from iMac, Macbook and iPhone, all is fine. iPad following message:
call ended.png (Definitely on same wifi network).
Airdrop works perfectly on iMac, Macbook and iPhone. iPad Airdrop on for everyone but not picked up by other devices and vice versa.
Handoff works perfectly between iMac, iPhone and Macbook. iPad not.

Handoff iPad on: Handoff.jpg
FaceTime and cellular calls on iPad activated: facetime.jpg

I have tried the usual recommendations from google searches:
Reinstall IOS 8.1 on iPad, Hard reset, Reset network settings, restart router/s, Switch handoff off and then on again on all 4 devices, switch FaceTime and cellular calls off and on all 4 devices.
All 4 devices logged in on same apple id. Double checked account info and all 4 devices listed under account my devices.

Any help or advice please?

Turn off handoff. Sign out of iCloud on all devices. Restart all the devices, sign in and should be fine. Don't forget to enable handoff.

Just upgraded my iPhone and iPad Air to iOS 8.1, and simply can't get it right to make a phone call from my iPad. I have done everything possible, including checking that uPnP is enabled on my router, which some forums suggested when I googled the problem.

Does anyone have any experience getting it to work?

I think it also has a lot to do with how a router is set up. Mine was working since the beta days of Yosemite and iOS 8

Any advice on what settings to check on the router?

This is going to drive me nuts, it is one of the main reasons I upgraded to iOS 8

Jip. This is driving me crazy as well.
Tried different router settings: dhcp, static, upnp, firewall, updated firmware etc etc... Nothing fixes!

I am now at the point where I can receive calls on the iPad, can send & receive SMS messages from/to the iPad, the Handoff/Continuity functions work (start writing an email on one device and carry on with it later on a second device, etc)...but still no ability to make calls from the iPad. Very weird and very disappointing.

As a side note, no major update of iOS has ever had any negative changes on any of my devices...but iOS 8.1 seems to drain my batteries faster. Checked and double checked all the usual settings, like background app refresh, etc...my Location Services and Bluetooth are always off...but it definitely drains faster. According to the usage stats, it is Safari - almost 60%? Everything else is below 10%. It is really disappointing since I normally get around 13-14 hrs on a full charge on my iPad. Now it seems less than 10hrs. Anyone else with the same problem?

Jeez. Are you sure we don't have the same devices/setup? hehe. Exactly the same here.
Handoff, messages, calls work perfectly but can not make call from iPad.
Battery drains faster, Safari usage on 60%, same as you...

Then if one of us finds a solution, he should let the other one know! Haha. My iPad actually got hot yesterday, this is the first time in three years, between two iPhones and two iPads that it has ever happened to one of my devices. I'm sorry to say, but it seems iOS 8 is really one of their less successful updates.

Something very interesting I found, I was also having issues, and sign-out / sign-in should fix everything but after that if it still doesn't work, on your iOS devices go to SETTING - GENERAL - DATE & TIME and change it to SET AUTOMATICALLY

For whatever reason everything works after that

N.B the Timezone shows Cape Town

I hope this helps

Blaine666, I am blown away! Don't understand why it makes a difference, but your advice did the trick! I am now able to make calls from the iPad as well. Thank you so much for posting!!

Sactjt, if you still don't come right with that, you are welcome to contact me and we could compare settings.

Now if we could only sort out the battery draining problem...but googling it reveals a lot of people worldwide are having the same problem. Hopefully Apple brings out another update soon to fix that. Don't know if one should try a different browser?

First of all, I have signed out of all the different sub-settings, meaning I've signed out of iCloud, I signed out of Facetime, etc.
I then turned OFF Handoff, Facetime, iMessage, etc.
Then I gave the device a reset (holding power button and home button simultaneously until device turned off AND back on again)
I then signed in everywhere again, and turned ON iMessage, Facetime, Handoff etc.

The above I did on both devices (iPad and iPhone). Also, my iCloud login and Apple ID are the same, and everywhere I'm signed in with the exact same Apple ID.

Then, my settings under Facetime (both devices):
"You can be reached by facetime at" part lists both my cell number AND Apple ID, and BOTH are ticked/selected (if Apple ID is not there, add it)
"Caller ID" lists both as well, but ONLY cell number is ticked/selected

iMessage settings:
"You can be reached by iMessage at" lists once again BOTH cell number and Apple ID, and both are selected
"Start new conversations from" lists both cell number and Apple Id but only cell number is selected

then under Settings->iCloud, I'm logged in with the same Apple ID as well.

The above is valid for both devices!

Up to this point I could still not make calls from the iPad, so I then set the time to "set automatically" on both devices, and voila. Bluetooth could be on or off for calls, making or receiving, but needs to be on for everything else.

I really hope you come right, don't hesitate to ask if there is any other settings you want me to check for you.

You are most welcome, I also have no idea why but yeah I'm sure from a software development point the date/time sync does make sense

Thank you for this. Unfortunately did not help. Tried all the above steps, solutions from other forums and tirelessly searching on the ol inter webs. Nothing works. Ai ai.
On Monday I quickly helped one of my clients set up his new iPad. His got stolen and claimed a new one. Same thing. Everything works as it should except for the cellular calls from the iPad side.
Also spoke to 3 people this week with iPads and all 3 said they can not get theirs working as well... 2 of them have iMacs and, same as with me, works fine from phone and iMac side but not iPad.

If you go into contacts do you have yourself saved as a contact with the cell number to be used as well as Apple ID email address?
