Ive had my mweb 4mb uncapped account for around 8 months now and first 5 months i noticed no problems at all youtube was streamable without buffering and international downloads where at 200kbs.

The last few months i have noticed a hectic decline in speed and stability youtube takes ages to stream 3 minute clips (about 25 minutes)

Stranger yet today i looked at local ping for games such as Team Fortress 2 the ping was 19ms-25ms and thats good BUT i have 10kbs download speed on most sites and browsing has become wosre then 56k :( it has moments when its working 100% then weeks when its just poorly.

How is it possible to have Good local ping but bad local Download speed

Please i would like to get this problem sorted out cause i like mwebs Price options and its stability for gaming would be nice if browising and downloads where just as good.

Easy, downloads are shaped to be slower, to allow games and interactive traffic to have good response times. It is after all more important than P2P downloads...

Is it ment to be like that 24/7 ? i know about shaped lines and all that but its bad in the morning /afternoon and at night. Only the ping is good most of the time. This did not happen over night ive notived a huge gradual decline in stabilty and speed

That's not normal, and your speedtest is too low. Do other ISP accounts do the same? It could point to congestion on the exchange, or issues with your line. Otherwise you will have to PM MWEB Operations.

Unfortunatly i dont have an other isp accounts to test that out Mweb done a quality check phone call last week and said the problem is with Telkom but im still unsure. funny enough every time we call mweb support the line speed Shoots up and its perfect for an hour or 2 strange...

There's your answer surely; wait for the fault to be repaired and then test again.

Try calling some other number and see if your speed improves.

Try calling MWeb and then hang up before speaking to anyone and see if your speed improves.

I'm with mweb and I don't usually complain because I'm getting incredible value for money... but I've also been experiencing REALLY crap speeds streaming video.... 80Kbps versus 5Mbps on webafrica. I've seen it across third party sites, and also on youtube. I'm convinced they have the speedtest.net servers on high priority.

Dude that is typical of life in general, the problem will go away when the support people arrive :D

You really should go buy another account because you are blaming mweb for a possible telkom fault. Reset your router, phone telkom and ask for a port refresh.

What does your router say the line is connecting at? I know sometimes my router will connect at 1 or 2 meg and i need to reboot it or get my port refreshed via telkom. Mister if you google, you will find many other speed tests.

Yeah, some basic trouble-shooting will help to isolate the problem. Check the SNR on your router too.

Correct, most ISP's do this - those type of test are highly suspicious, as per example: (only valuable if there is a substantial difference to previous tests)

The test you should be using: http://www.measurementlab.net/measurement-lab-tools#tool4 only delivers a download speed of 2.5 MB/s

I cant even load that page just says "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" also tried it on Chrome same story :(

Ive reset my router countless times and told telkom to reset my line aswell ... its still the same nothing i can do at this point but wait i guess... my p2p is non exsistant im talkin 0kbs now ill give it a week and see if there is any improvement i know things break and in africa it takes ages to get it fixed .. but thanx for the help and stuff :)

Hi Shuyin
Please inbox me your MWEB details so that I can look into this for you.

You definitely need to compare it to other ISP speeds on the same line. Maybe try the Telkom guest account if that still operates.
