Has anybody else been having problems with this phone where it freezes?
I have found a forum and company that will for 10 euro's de-brand the VODAFONE branding thats on this cell. If I read through the forums once you have de-branded the phone and taken off the vodafone stuff its much faster and doesnt freeze and it comes with the much wanted motion senseing game Marble madness.

My question is this: Will my vodacom sim card still work in the phone if I load the vanilla generic de branded firmware?

The site is: http://www1.davinciteam.com/index.html?pro=world

The forum site it: http://www.expansys.com/ft.aspx?k=101499&page=3

You will lose your warranty on the phone.

I would suggest being a little more patient and waiting for Sony to release new official firmware for it, which you could send in for an upgrade, or do it yourself if they are like Nokia.

You can request Vodacom to remove the Vodafone firmware and install the SE Firmware... Thats one reason I didnt port to Vodacom, their crappy Vodafone software and fks up most phones...

How much is it going to cost me to do that? Ill probably have to take my phone into a voda shop for that right?

Would believe so, just phone for a quote ;)

The problem with the Vodafone branded firmware is that the normal SE update application will not upgrade the phone even if there is a newer firmware version. The Davinci site, as I understand it, allows you to flash a generic SE firmware onto the phone and once done you can use the SE update application to keep you current.

Obviously doing it yourself does carry some level of risk.

On a side note: I have yet to come across a post where someone has had something good to say about re-branding. Why do cell providers insist on pushing this?

When you order the phone you can SAY you dont want branding, but if you do it afterwards I have no idea...

Its not that much effort to do it yourself, I used to rebrand and update my Moto's (Can get the software online) But for warranty sake just take it in...
