Hi

Just an idea for the ISPs out there. Everyone is yarping about how expensive the international bandwidth is and local bandwidth seems so cheap with some deals costing as little as R15.

One of the nasties about getting an uncapped 512 fixed ip package is that it limits both local and international bandwidth to 512 - but im assuming this is purely due to the cost of international.

So how about a package that gives international at one speed and local at another i.e 512 international (the costly portion) and 4mbits local.

Anyways just an idea that would probably make some difference.

That would most likely be impossible as it depends on your line. They're not going to throttle your entire adsl line just for the international bandwidth. Besides, as far as I am aware it is Telkom who deal with the line speeds, not the ISPs...

no you misunderstand, many of the solutions now days are fixed 512 because the international is capped at 512. As i understand many of the routers actually connect a VPN once the DSL is dialled up, your ADSL link may be 4mbits but because you only have a 512 package they throttle you to 512 even though your line is 4mbit from telkom.

All im saying is that it would be nice to have a different throttling between international and local and obviously pricing for that. I cant believe that its not possible, its definitly nothing a clever router cant do.
