The Role:

The primary function of the Production Support Engineer is to support the production users and workstations for all staff, maintaining and troubleshooting systems as required, with the aim of providing a stable and fully functioning production environment, either onsite or remotely. The candidate will be based in Cape Town, but will be required to liaise with our IT support in JHB, and from time to time visit our JHB office.

The individual must be available from 8.30am to 5.00pm weekdays. Due to the nature of the industry, there may occasionally be larger production projects that require additional support on evenings and weekends.

The Production Support Engineer is also responsible for the implementation of new production environments. This could range from setting up an on-location editing workstation to the setup of the technology in a new WPP joint venture facility.

Production systems in use at Hogarth include standard application suites and custom workflow tools. The standard applications include, but are not restricted to; Adobe Creative Suite, Apple Final Cut Studio, Apple Final Cut Server, Autodesk Maya, Autodesk Smoke for Mac, Avid ProTools, Maxon Cinema 4D, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Exchange, Tektronix Cerify, Telestream Episode Engine, The Foundry Nuke, etc.

Key Responsibilities:

* Relevant experience (3 years minimum) in similar digital video or print production environment.

* An excellent working knowledge of post-production processes and services.

* General "can-do" service attitude.

* Excellent time management skills & multi-tasking abilities.

* Good organizational skills.

* Excellent communication skills.

* Attention to detail.

* Well-presented and polite.

* Able to adapt to new working methods & practice technology advances.

* Good working knowledge of Mac OSX, Windows, Network, NAS / SAN and Adobe Creative Suite.

* Be able to work independently as well as part a team.

* Form good working relationships with post producers and operators.

* Positive attitude towards problem solving and tight deadlines.

* Escalate and formally report faults to specialist engineers (including third party support when required).

* Able to document & update documentation (WiKi).

* Provide First & Second line support to the suites within EMEA.

* To complete project work as set by the Senior / Lead Engineers.

Desirable Experience:

* Technical Experience of AVID ProTools.

* Technical Experience of building Editing Suites.

* Technical Experience of File Formats, Codecs.
