Hello

I'm aware that most dvd writers(Not blueray/dual layer) comes with software included.
I'm looking to buy an affordable and professional dvd writing software to use with a standard dvd writer(Not blueray or dual layer). Making it possible to right in most formats.
I'm sure there's opensource or free stuff somewhere.

Many thanks

D

Title says affordable and post says free. So which are you looking for?

I'd go with Nero for general use.

+1. Nero has to many hassles, like forgetting a DVD-RW is erasable etc.

Nice little app, been using it for some time and would also recommend it.

The thing that ticks me off about Nero is all the crap it installs even if you select nothing but Burning Rom, you still end up with a crap load of other things installed that try to run constantly. Nero 8 is even worse, I can't stand it anymore.

Yep, that is the problem with these higher version, OEM supported Software packages... massive bloat! the same thing is happening with PowerDVD and the graphics packages that come with scanners.

What exactly is it that you want to do?

Do you want to write data DVD-Rs?
Do you want to convert video into video-DVDs for living room set top DVD player playback?

I think your best bet is something from Nero. However there
are alternatives. Go to www.videohelp.com and look
under the Tools section, they review various software,
free, shareware and commercial apps, all linked
and reviewed - even have prices.

You know in the not so distant past, Nero used to be an 8MB download.
Then you went to .... got a ..... and it worked! At the same time EasyCD Creator
was like 60MB plus and did the same things Nero Burning ROM did.

Anyway, now Nero is like 190MB, BLOATED, does everything - 95% of which
you will never use and just adds to bloat and going to ..... will yield a trojan.
The 90's and early 00's rocked.

Anyone here use Feurio? That was a cool lil program?

Or DVDSanta?

ImgBurn v2.4.2.0 (1,926 KB) :)

And it supports Blu-Ray

Maybe but ImgBurn is more of an image burner no? Can you create
a new DVD then burn that or do you have to save as Image first then
it burns that? Can it create new images?

I know the result is the same, but my experience with the old
versions of Nero has always been good.

No, that is why I suggested the combination of CDBurnerXP and IMGBurn (on the first page of this thread).

Both programs are free and fully featured while being light and easy to use.

I can't see why anyone would BUY Nero... it's fine if you get it with your DVD writer... but I am not gonna spend $80 on something I can get for free.

It can create new images or write directly to DVD. You don't need an existing image file. Some of the first options when you run ImgBurn are "Write files/folders to disc" and "Create image file from files/folders".

Data discs and DVD Video discs are pretty straight forward, audio CDs are a bit more tricky since you first have to create a Cue file.
