Wits University's "Grand Geek" Barry Dwolatzky has died

The University of the Witwatersrand has announced that Professor Barry Dwolatzky has passed away.

“His passing is a great loss to the Wits community where he touched the lives of students, staff, researchers, academics, industry partners, innovators, entrepreneurs and friends in so many ways,” the university said in a statement.

Such a great humble human. For me was the definition of staying curious and a visionary for how South Africa should embrace and foster technology at the grass routes level.

I knew him. Great guy. Was a big player in the JHB software community, devconf, etc. I also attended some of his courses at Wits. Sad loss. RIP Prof.
