So yesterday my order for 4mbit adsl came through. Chose the self-install option. I wasnt at home so I called my wife and guided her through on how to set everything up. I told her to sms me once the adsl verifcation is done and this is the sms i received from her:

"Your request for adsl was successful. Your adsl service will be activated at 10240kbps. Your profile will be activated in 30 mins."

So I get home in a fit of excitement and check up but Im still syncin at 4096kbps. Anybody have any idea wtf this means??

Im in the umhlanga area btw...

Telkom just found a new way to disappoint you.... by sms

Thanks Telkom

Anyone asked the local 0800375375 call center to reset their profile to 10Mb

Lol, pretty sure you wife misread the number 10240 = 1024.
Even if your line syncs with 4096, literally you are on 1024.

We had the sane thing when we got our 4mb 2 months back. Essentially means the line is 10mb ready but they haven't actually released the service yet. When theu do we'll get onto the 10mb..

i got the same

Phoned them about 2 months back and asked what is the best speed for my area, so they said, 10 ..............ooops 4 mbps. I went in, activate dthe service and saw on the guys computer screen, line sync, 10mbps, so i asked him when that would be active, so he said, i'm not allowed to say, cough, 1 june cough.

But my line is still 4mbps

They first have to upgrade their exchanges to handle the new 10mbps connections. When I was staying in Milnerton a few years ago I had a 512kbps connection, and when they bumped me up to 1024kbps I was still only able to connect at 512kbps. After they upgraded the exchange, the connection was rocking at 1024kbps.
