Are there any progressive rock/metal fans around here?

More in the link above. I can honestly relate to the blank stares. Very seldom do I encounter someone who has heard of the term progressive rock or progressive metal. It is my favorite genre though so should anyone ask me what music I like I usually end up running through a list of bands they have never heard of
until I mention Pink Floyd then there is the aha! moment.
While the definitions may vary I do find myself feeling as though there is much more going on technically with prog rock/metal. The typical verse/chorus/verse/chorus structure falls away and you're left with more of a journey or story driven experience in music. At times it can be quite abstract or openly incorporates unique elements that expands the band's musical repertoire and freedom to perform.
Some of my favorites include:
Dream Theater
Epica
Porcupine Tree
Symphony X
Circus Maximus
Within Temptation
Riverside
Kamelot
Rush
IQ
Queensryche
This music isn't for everyone but if you do find yourself curious to discover more and read up on these bands take a look at http://www.progarchives.com/

Newcomers to the genre seem to frequently ask this question in prog discussions. More so, each person seems to either add more or less to the definition...
