As the titles says.

I have a 320gb(FAT32) external hdd for the 360 that I want to rip my dvd collection to. Anybody know a FREE program that I can use to rip my dvds in a compatible format for the 360? Thnks

Mediacoder to make them avi ....... I tried Handbrake but it never gets past doing half the movie.

Thanks will try it out.
Forgot to mention I would like them in good quality to and to keep the dvd's aspect ratio.

FairUseWizard DVDRipper is the absolute best. Trust me. I've said it many times before and I'll say it again. I've used many rippers but none has impressed me as much as FairUse. You can select the codecs and output file size and it's bladdy accurate. The output quality is also amazing. If you want to convert across formats, you can use WinAVI Video Converter, MediaCoder or AutoGK. I used AutoGK last night. Awesome program and it's free. You can also select the output size with it.

trying fairuse now. (2nd attempt - thanks eskom)

Merc is right... Fair Use is the program you want. I strongly suggest getting a retail version of it... although the free version also does a good job.

Just one thing. I find I get a much better quality rip, when I follow these steps...

1) Use DVD Decrupter to rip the DVD to your Hard Drive.
2) Use DVD Shrink to make an ISO image of the DVD, but turn the compression off completely, in other words, the ISO image will be an exact image of the DVD. Also enable the two extra read options in DVD Shrink to get a better quality image, it is slower, but it pays off. Put that image on a different drive to the one you are going to rip to.
3) Now use Fair Use Wizard to rip from that unencrypted image in your hard disk. You will get a very high quality rip with no artifacts and no "streaking".

Compare that to a rip straight from the DVD and you will see what I mean. Of course the quality of your DVD drive and speed of your processor is also a factor. 3.0 Ghz strongly recommended!

never heard of fairuse, but i'll look for it now....

...unsure if this links, but how would one backup a 360 game?

Yip, and if you have a Core 2 Duo, it really rips fast :)

You would need a Xbox backup program. I think I have the software at home but I can't remember what it's called.
