Programmable bank account Root launching next year

I used to pay standardbank R~250pm for a bundled account. Now I pay capitec R65 a month, plus I get about R150 back in interest. For just banking the way I did before, not needing to change spending habits. So I think my move from standardbank to capitec is a win for me.

But yeah, root seems cool as a developer. But with standardbank backing it, I will pass.

Sometimes Stranded Bank seems stuck in the 19th century, but sometimes they surprise me with the stupidity.

I mean, they backed PayWithShepherd, SnapScan, Shyft, all really innovative things. But on the other hand, you can't even get them to verify an EFT payment. Customer service is also atrocious.
 
This is awesome everything in life should have an API.

Now only if people can get an API :D

FYI. I have a Virgin card as a backup because it’s free. Nothing wrong with using that as a benefit, but it would be utterly retarded for me to drop FNB and lose R1500+ a month just to bank for “free”.

Hey seeing as how R10K is twice my income I'm really not sure how I 'will spend 10k anyway' but sure carry on in your little insulated overpaid bubble

I already use 3000+ a year of airport lounge which by itself is close to what I pay the bank.

Then I get around R200 a month of cash back that I can put in unit trusts or use to pay my bank fees.

In the end, I'm paid to bank.
 
You are arguing about the wrong things. Root is a bank for developers. Do you know how difficult it is to create a company like snap scan if you are not a bank. Root acts as an interface between fintech companies and banks.

I get this, but if you need a Root account to access these Root features, how would you ever sell your product to holders of other accounts? I'd warrant that the only other people on Root are the ones who want to develop their own features, so I can see it as working for DIY-style projects, but can you do things that would work with an Absa or a Capitec account? This is what puzzles me about this.

Snapscan is just a payment processor. There are many out there. Most aren't banks.

Well you were the one who wanted to be woefully off topic.

And you’ve gone magically from living in Oudtshoorn and complaining about the water taxes you need to pay under the DA to suddenly being homeless.

I don’t buy it.

Especially since you aren’t homeless enough to be posting on a bloody forum.

Maybe if you were less of a twat about things you wouldn’t be “homeless” and your life wouldn’t be so hard.

FYI because you clearly you don't understand English .. I've been = I HAVE BEEN as in PAST TENSE! And yes I complain about endless increases in fees etc because I can't bloody afford them. Money doesn't magically grow on trees and all the increases hit the poor the hardest because we can't just shrug and eat out one less time a month to pay for them.

I have been means in the past and still presently.

I had been would have implied the pure past tense.

Either way your sentence construction needs work and you could have done better if your implication was really that you had been homeless in the past and not presently.

Still think you are a troll using a lie, that you are suddenly backtracking on with semantics, to win an argument.

An argument that is woefully off topic, like most of your posts.

The reason I state you are a troll is because you’ve at the very least presented yourself (this is a compliment) here as someone who can’t possibly be earning 5k a month unless doing so voluntarily.

I don’t understand “have been” this way but as in the past and terminated, if it was followed by a present verb, then yes. For example: “I have been looking for a new flat”.

Have been can be used if the action finished recently.

I might be wrong though.

Like I said (in edit) the sentence construction needed some more work to really imply tense.

As it stands it could really go either way and be interpreted as such. It’s not the reader’s role to guess what the author implied, but rather the author’s responsibility to make sure he is understood correctly.

Note he used “I’ve been” which is bad English in the first and left the rest up to interpretation. Which is why he then needed to come explain himself in full sentences because he didn’t do so in the first place.

Anyway, this now has bugger all to do with the thread.

Well I enjoyed the troll making a fool of himself. Sauron did great in not giving back an emotional response, and again I like the explanation of the use of "have been", me being Afrikaans and easily messing up tenses. *hides*
