Just out of curiousity and interests sake. Do you male work with female programmers and web developers? In my class there are 3 females. Doubt they will keep on this year.

Anyone kno the stats?

We have 1 in front end dev and 1 in back end dev. 1 also recently moved to analytics..

a ratio of about 3/10 in my experience. not many of them stay programmers (as they generally suck at it). most go into project management/business analyst/popping out babies for a living

The South African tech community is rampant with misogyny so it is unsurprising that woman don't want to have anything to do with it.

Have yet to work with female programmers even though I've worked for 4 companies.
Girls I do work with are project managers.

Why do they suck? Apart from my understanding of dedication and love for it (technology and breath taking programs).

Our department has close to 60 devs of which only 1 is female. No offence to the fairer sex but coding is just not their thing...

EDIT
@Khanya: without sounding like a douchebag from the early 1900's, I think they suck at programming because of the way you have to think and analyse stuff. I'm being dead serious.

+1

In my 6 years of working, I have worked with only had one good female programmer, the other 2 sucked at it. and also think its the older generation females that are good in programming, in 2nd and 3rd year we had programming lectures that were females andf they were very good... all female programmers born after 80's seem to suck...

The ratio was 1:20

Haven't met any female devs. Only project managers. And the females that my company hires in tech really are dumb. Absolutely no passion for technology. It's just another job to them.

We have one female web dev and 2 male web devs at our company, and then our own sites webmaster who is male. Never worked with a female programmer but do know some who can code from school/uni comp sci. I did notice in CS however that the females were usually better than males at the theory but worse at coding (and vice versa).

Had 3 women, in my team when I worked in SA. There where 8 of us in total. They where great programmers, good looking as well.

Here in the UK there are 7 women in a dept of about 20. Team leader is a hot blonde.

While women are a minority in dev, when it comes to programme management, they outnumber the guys 3 to 1 here in the UK. I look forward to weekly project meetings :)

Sounds like most SA IT teams are a bunch boy band gay clubs :) ag shame :)

In my team of about 60 we have 1 systems analyst, 3 Oracle DBA's, 1 Ingress DBA, 2 Delphi.net devs, 2 Java devs, 1 Senior Java dev, 2 C++ devs, 1 Senior C++ dev, 4 Testers, one Project Admin and 4 Customer Facing support.

The above are all the females of course. And what's interesting is that while most guys will surf the net or talk **** with their buddies in the office, the female developers will actually come ask for work if they're idle. Also some of them (the C++ girls) know their **** and are even giving the guys a run for their money! :)
