I started very young as well.

assembler,turbo c++, borland c++, vb3/4/5/6, visual c++ did some basic but hated it and im 29.

I first started developing using BASIC on an Acorn Electron back in 1983. Good times with the tape loader You learn to work really carefully, when you know that saving is something you only do when you really have to.

We mucked about on the pc's at school when the teacher was explaining to the rest of the class what a for loop was, discovered QBasic had this stupid Gorilla game, then rewrote it with cheat codes.
Always start with something that interests you. One way to really get experience is to do something that is practical. Last app I wrote just for the kicks of it was a Android app to keep track who had to pick up the morning coffee tab. Only reasons I did this was to get to learn the Android SDK.
And stop my PM from mooching off me.

Heh. My friend's Commodore 64. One day his sister taped Purple Rain over Space Invaders. Boy - were we p!ssed.

downloaded an emulator not so long ago just for river raid. apparently my 6 year old reflexes kick my ass

Also downloaded an emulator the other day. Can't believe we thought these graphics were the bomb.
