Progress on phasing out green barcoded ID book

There have been several key smart ID card issuing developments in the past few weeks that suggest the government's push to phase out green ID books is accelerating.

The green ID book has been used as the official proof of identity in South Africa since the 1960s.

The only reason for any wish to change ID's is the worlds left wing control fetish currently being championed by the Left wing DA. The ANC does what it is told to do by the BRIC's community and China already has the same sort of control system. Eventually your digital ID will do everything from being a bank card to unlocking your front door, or starting your car as is already the case in Smart cities internationally.... South Africa would have to build a Smart city to know this though, the one in Montrose has already been half way looted and the R10 Billion Rand wasted on it is long gone. Looting is of course the only thing the ANC and by extension the GNU knows how to do.

Did you forward this to 10 friends or your WhatsApp will expire?

Wow. I'm far-right as can be and even I went "wow" at this.

The green ID book has been used as the official proof of identity in South Africa since the 1960s.

The document has barely changed, aside from the change in the South African emblem on its cover after the first fully democratic elections in 1994.

The coat of arms only changed in 2000, so logically the ID cover would have only been updated after that.

Also, I think that before some point in the 80s or 90s, IDs didn't have barcodes.

Slight flaw here. They only issue green id books to Permanent Residents and not ID Cards. When would they allow Permanent Residents to apply for ID cards? We have a few million Permanent Residents.

I would expect more circumspect reporting from Mybroadband and the members of this forum. Instead I see newsletters filled with articles extolling the virtues of going digital. I'm very suspicious of the new "digital id". If you have any database experience you would be too. Systems sold as unhackable/unbreakable ? Well, I have an unsinkable ship that you might be interested in.

Your ID number is already everywhere - so your reason for suspicion is...suspect

Give me a card that can be my drivers license and my ID that doesn't expire
It can be done. Current technology allows for it, Hell the ISO7816 compliant cards were designed with this in mind.

But ANC SAYS NO.... cause then they will shut themselves out of new reserves of gravy.

not really, I mean they could still do like each time you need to change something you need a new card, if you leave it to them they'll find something creative

The blue ID (Book of Life) was issued in the middle '70,s. Previously there was an ID card, mine was issued in 1971)
