Projecting your Windows Phone screen to a PC

Unfortunately 8.1 will only be released in the next few months. I installed the developer preview, it is identical to the final release but there is also subject to same risk. Didn't see too many people complaining about problems though.

That's pretty awesome.

Does anyone have any idea when Vodacom will roll out 8.1 for the 1520? A google yields nothing :/
My information is that by June 2014 it will hit the RSA, this is a safer route than the Preview download. The official release will have most of the bugs removed.

Why would you want to do this? I love chromecast for movies and youtube on tv but i don't see the point of this one.

It's mainly for business purposes like product and PowerPoint demonstrations. Also very handy for developers. Furthermore it now enables one to configure windows phones remotely using something like LogMeIn or Teamviiewer.

For PowerPoint I prefer Office remote, because that connects via Bluetooth to your PC or tablet and your phone becomes a clicker.

But the rest is pretty cool. I've upgraded to 8.1 on my L1520 without any problems and only USB is supported. I heard that miracast might be supported on 1520 in the future.

Thanks for the heads-up for Office remote, didn't know it existed. BTW, first time I can connect to my lappy via Bluetooth, didn't want to work on Windows 8/Phone 8. I also noticed that Remote Desktop has also been released, now just got to figure how to get it to work...

So like Samsungs SideSync? (except that you can wifi samsung).

Me thinks SideSync is a few steps ahead, MS is still catching up and will probably leapfrog in the near future. Can't connect via WiFi either AFAIK.

I connect sidesync to laptop with wifi.

I don't understand why it is such a mission though.
I can rdp windows xp machines on Pentium 2's and can rdp into servers at work without an issue over 3g from my old xperia s.

So this is like Big Screen for the Nokia N8?
I've had it for years.

There's a number of things I had on Symbian for years, but gotta move ahead, at least they're catching up and going beyond :) For instance, I really missed timed profiles that I used for silent mode, now with Cortana we have Quiet Hours which surpasses the Symbian timed profiles by far.

The Project My Screen app would be very much more useful if it supported PC keyboard input. Hopefully MSFT do this soon.

Anyone have a skin for the Lumia 1520?

It makes my life as a developer *much* easier when creating promo images for apps/games.

And I can drive my phone from the desktop. Very useful. Just wish I could also type from the PC keyboard into the phone - did this more than ten years ago with Win Mobile.
