Just wanted to know if fibre account is an acceptable proof of residence these days. I mean, it's a fixed location service with a name and address.

Cancelled my ADSL when I got fibre, but still have telephone on Telkom account. No telephone plugged in though, hasn't been for more than a year. Decided to keep the phone service as I use the Telkom account for easy proof of residence. I could use the municipal bill, but last I checked they haven't fixed the errorneous name on the thing. :p

Yes it is. Used my Supersonic ftth statement as proof of residence when I renewed my drivers license card and they did not complain.

Thanks.
Guess what's getting cancelled today then

Hahahaha is that a joke... One do not simply cancel a Telkom line. The requirements are insane. You need to get blacklisted first. The spend most of your life on the phone daily to Telkom. Lodge a complaint. Get mybb to investigate and IF Telkom thinks you deserve to have your line cancelled then they will cancel it otherwise rinse and repeat.

BTW you can also use your life policy or medical scheme as proof of residence.

Just port your number to https://www.freshphone.co.za/ that way you keep your phone number and cancellation will happen smoothly
I literally have not made a landline phone call from home in years. I pulled the phone out over a year ago after I found the domestic worker making long calls to PE and receiving countless late night calls about her late or unpaid accounts. So not even interested in porting the number.

Fair enough, but might be the fastest way to dump Telkom without going to hell and back

Ok, let me check otherwise I'll do a temporary port as you suggest.
