I don't find it hard to believe that someone born in the mid-90's having no interest in rock music (and whose parents maybe also didn't) might not know who the Beatles are.

I only know who Lionel Richie and other RnB-ish singers of that era are because my elder sisters tortured us with that stuff growing up.

Mozart, Beethoven and the like are in a different league. Ask a 17 yo who Kurt Cobain was and you have a better comparison. Actually not really - Paul McCartney has been in the news in recent years.

To give you an example of how uninformed people are - a guy/friend I studied with only found out John Paul died when we spoke about Benedict being elected as the new Pope in class. And his dad is a minister so I'm sure it must have come up in conversation somewhere.

I don't like The Beatles. Sure they were popular (which says nothing actually) and very influential for their time but I'm afraid their music does not inspire me at all. As for all of Hip-Hop, also not interested.

Pretty much anything highly commercial and "radio worthy" always proves time and again to be a real disappointment for me. A look into the average psyche of humanity which smacks of mediocrity as it naturally would.
