Pros & Cons of overclocking?

I've read multiple times how people have overclocked their S2's and then after a short period the phone starts freezing, even if you declock it again. The phone reaches overclocked speeds easily, like from 1200 to 1600 Mhz, but it damages the processor too much. I don't recommend it.

Rather try different kernels and play around within the kernel settings (governors etc) - {Some kernels come with an app installed like EXtweak which allow you to change more kernel related settings}

Cons:
Unstable
Poor battery life

Pros:
None that I can think of....

Overclocking a phone is like putting a K&N filter on a Tazz, it might make a wooosh sound when you accelerate but won't do much else.

Rather spend the time optimising you RAM usage, install a custom ROM and remove all the bloatware, unused apps and widgets that will be slowing down your phone.

I often run my Motorola Milestone 2 at 800Mhz (1Ghz stock) to save battery and I don't see any performance difference.

Over clocking strains the hardware and also heats up the device alot.

Why do you want to over clock? Is it to speed up games? If that's the main reason, there are other ways to achieve that.

Pros:
  • Slightly better performance
Cons:
  • Overheating
  • Battery life
  • Physically damaging hardware
  • Explosions :D

It depends on the phone, I OC'e my Defy to 1250mhz and it was fine.

Pros: slightly faster (just enough to play some games)

Con: decreased battery life, possible instability

If your phone is working fine then dont OC, if it just needs a little push then why not. Search the net for the average OC ppl are doing on the Galaxy Y and do it. The reward is the process of OCing, not really the results becoz its not much difference.
