Johannesburg - Residents of Madikwe in the North West petrol-bombed a prosecutor's house because of frustrations over a public violence court case, police said on Saturday.
"The residents were upset over a court case that took place on Friday involving three suspects that appeared in the Madikwe Magistrate's Court," said Lieutenant Colonel Lesego Metsi.
The three suspects were in court because of their involvement in violent protests earlier in the year, said Metsi.
"The crowd was at the court and afterwards went to the house of the prosecutor."
He said the crowd, along with residents from Tlokweng and Madikwe, threw stones and bricks at the house around 13:00.
"One person threw a petrol bomb."
Emergency services managed to put out the fire. No arrests had been made.
Metsi said police were patrolling the area and monitoring the situation, which was currently calm.
In September, protesting residents in the same area stoned cars and ordered drivers to pay them a fee to travel on barricaded roads during a week-long demonstration.
"This is the same group of protesters that burned down a bus in September," said Metsi.
They apparently attacked the bus because it would not take them to a public violence court case at Mogwase Magistrates Court, about 70km away, for free.
