Prostate test

Has anyone had a PSE test? Sounds to be a great advancement.

The EpiSwitch® PSE (Prostate-Specific EpiSwitch) is a highly accurate blood test that detects prostate cancer by combining a standard PSA (Prostate-Specific Antigen) test with five epigenetic immune cell biomarkers. It boasts 94% accuracy, helping to identify cancer early and avoid unnecessary biopsies.

After recently having had a biopsy, had I known about this, would have made enquiries rather. Apparently not cheap, but then neither is a biopsy.

Yes it is but I think it must be relatively new. Just a few years ago it was standard to get fingered but now its not.

For a colonoscopy ? no.

I just had mine the other day and I'll be glad to not do that for another 5-10 years.
Focus now, the colonoscopy thread is that way <-----

I had it. I did a bunch of other tests at the same time. Cholesterol, kidney function, blood sugar etc
I pissed in a jar at the same time.

I'll have to check the bill but i really don't think it was expensive.

Hope the results come back good!

I have this too. If i eat any less fat i may as well have air lol.
The fat is the symptom, not the cause. Sugar is more likely to give you cholestrol than fat. You'll probably find that you have a fatty liver caused by sugar, which then causes the fat buildup in your arteries...

1. Is the PSA blood test not sufficient for this? Because i'm not having anyone stick anything anywhere and..
2. Is a scan such as Xray, MRI etc not sufficient for this? Because i'm not having anyone stick anything anywhere...
Been doing the PSA for about 4/5 years annually now. I asked similar earlier in the thread, I think its pretty much like any other test, if it trips or starts odd results, you go for the invasive, otherwise its normally fine I think

2c, not a doc.

Yeah I believe the finger was the mainstay for the longest time because when the blood tests first came out they were like R2500 a pop and that was a while ago when that was even more of a fortune than now.

So now you do the blood test and if it looks dodgy then you dig deeper…literally.

For all the men.. and the odd trans on this site, just go get a PSA test, it costs R300 to check your prostate out with a blood test.

Steps are below :

You walk into a hospital <-- free
You walk into Lancet or Ampath and open the door <-- free
You ask for a form <-- free
You tick PSA test <-- free
They charge you <-- R300
They jab a needle in you <-- ouch
You go home <-- walk if you want it free
24 hours later your results land in your email.

R300 can save your life.... like what Jeremy did, but he should have done it yearly so he was incredibly lucky to catch it.

Most medical aids will cover the blood test too.

Imagine trying to claim it back from medical aid...

"who authorized it... who told you to go... which doctor recommended you?"

Not even worth the headache. I guarantee they will tell me to first get some specialist to say I need a test.

No hassles from my medical aid. They have covered yearly tests as part of their preventative care benefits since I turned 40.
