Pretty much most men get it. It's just not very high levels for most.
When my oupa passed away many years ago (heart related) the doctor told us afterwards he also had signs of low level prostate cancer but apparently most 80+ patients do have some levels of this at that age. Not always dangerous though.
 
Went for a test today at Dischem. R239 (total) for blood test sent to Ampath. Still waiting for results.

I don't have it in the family as far as I know, but I also have a very small family. I was just always told 40 is when you need to start. Discovery also keeps reminding me to go.
 
So @purrr do you have BPH symptoms then?

Suffering from that. Taking meds but on its own not doing wonders.
Then started taking zinc tablets and it helped a lot. Highly recommended. I read that zinc also helps a lot for cancer in the prostate. A healthy prostate needs zinc but once you have an enlarged one the levels drop heavily.

I have no symptoms which is why this ordeal has come as a surprise.

I have a slight age related enlarged prostate which is causing me to not fully empty my bladder which cases prostate and bladder infections.

I am getting two procedures, in two weeks I get a scrape that removed tissue from the inside to reduce its size which will allow me to fully empty my bladder.

In 2-3 months they will do the brachytherapy which inserts radio active pellets into the prostate to kill off the cancer.

@Spizz has had that done and shared earlier in this thread. I also spoke to a former colleague that had it. Also chatted to someone that is knowledgable about it. After that I feel much more at ease at what lies ahead.

It's reckoned about 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with it at some stage, so I'm wondering who here does what for testing and how often? The old days was a visit to the doctor and a finger up the bum, but now for example in the UK you send in a bit of your poo when you hit 50 and they anal-yse that.

So short of visiting the GP for a fingering, can anyone suggest any other easier way such as a blood test...
