Some lady keeps calling me to persuade me to get one. Does anyone have one?

Pros/cons?

You talking about the protea Gold prokard the discounts are not bad when booking, but only worthwile if you travel and stay at protea alot, the gold card cost like R1350 a year an the discounts range between 5% -20% - depending on hotel dates rates etc. and you get points back that you can use as cash - and I think you get breakfasts at the hotel at 50% the price
I had one The discounts you get do save you quite a bit but I got my card 1 year free subscription so it so sure for me was worth it, but I used it twice only so i doubt it saved me the R1350 it would have cost me for the subscription

Yes that one. She tells me that i'll get vouchers that will cover the joining fee blah blah.

Dude its crap. Signed up twice, I found out that if you call the hotel with a number you are quoted more than if you call and pay cash. The vouchers are subject to availability. So even in my second year I still was unable to use the vouchers I received for the first year subscription. Save your money. Oh and when I did book the so called room upgrade was nowhere in site and the staff at PROTEA HOTEL BALAILAIKA Sandton were so full of crap it was as if I was staying for free..

This^

had one for a year, total waste of time, only ended up redeeming a couple of the vouchers

I got one. Stayed in protea clarens and fire and ice in cape town. Both times were pleasant experiences and I used the 1 night free vouchers so basically paid half price (both were 2 day stays). Then they give quite a nice discount on the food as well. Family often stays in protea hotels so end up visiting their hotels for tea/cofee or a meal sometimes and never had any issues. So, at the end of the day you're buying into a "rewards program" of sorts but basically as long as you're going to a hotel once a year then it's worth it.

Many options are above 1350 per night so just using one of those free nights will cover the cost.

Surely the discovery discount on southern sun hotels are better option , if you are part of discovery vitality
