Protect yourself when your iPhone is stolen

Modern smartphone security standards make it difficult for thieves to access personal data on your smartphone.

Chances are, if your smartphone is ever swiped by a criminal, they will need to wipe the device before using or re-selling it as it will be secured with a PIN or biometric authentication.

Twice when my phones have been stolen those phishing messages were sent to my mom, dad, and best friend whose phone numbers were accessible under my emergency contact info (which you can see when the phone is locked). Originally I thought it was part of the lost phone functionality of Find My Phone and I nearly fell for it.

Received similar sms messages the past two weeks stating that one of our bank accounts has been temporarily locked because it was identified as being the target of a hacking attempt.

The link included takes then takes you to a fake copy of the bank's website, where they want you to log in with your IB details.

Assholes.

Getting into my iCloud won't get them access to anything anyway.
