Protecting your outdoor CPE from theft

I have now added an OUTSIDE wireless PIR with pet protection that triggers over 20kg on my alarm towards the pole so if someone manages to get on roof it will trigger the house alarm and I will be notified -this is a reality for every person mounting the router outside -THEFT. The pet sensor will ignore a rat or a cat which is nice to prevent false alarms

I guess if your yard is not secure, such is required.

So inside your security complex, people are stealing your CPE's? I would rather put up a camera than a PIR.

No.....only prevention. I dont want to spend $ on cameras -the PIR is a cheaper option as I had the PIR spare so I went the PIR route

My speed was poor inside so I mounted it on a pole outside.The question is rather will Rain replace it at their cost if its stolen outside.And yes its their property but I heard its advisable to add it on your house insurance. Would be great to hear a response from @rain_networks @rain_mobile to clarify the companies stance on theft. This is not a concern for indoor users

16.4.3.2You are required to return the Device in the same condition that you received it, fair wear and tear excepted, at the termination of your service.If you do not return the Device, or you return the Device but it is damaged and requires repair, you will be liable for the cost of repairing and/or replacing the Device. The replacement cost will be the cost at which Rain procures the Device, which is currently R5500,00

Why do these twits steal the plastic fibre box attached to the wall? There is nothing of value in it. In Kenilworth, they ripped off 12 boxes from Pine Road. Vumatel's guy said they have 2 teams out every day repairing vandalised and stolen access boxes

Good point -I heard they targeting the cellphone tower batteries as they are valuable -just show you nothing outside is safe. Glad I added the PIR. Will give me peace of mind at least as I'm not adding it to my insurance as it sound if the user is 100% liable for the unit in case of theft

I believe the answer will be yes, as you will not be able to return the router to the ISP.

Yes -so your also stuffed if getting hit by lightning -Im sure the user will be liable for it

Yes. I believe there might be a warning against lightning in the manual.
