Protesters block Golden Highway

Protesters of the Lehae area in the south of Johannesburg outside Lenasia on Tuesday blockaded the Golden Highway with rocks, said the metro police department.

Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar said the road was inaccessible to motorists.

"They should rather use the N1 or the K43 as alternative routes," he said.

The protest started before 5am. It was not immediately clear what it was about.

Police officers were on the scene, said Minnaar.

I don’t know if anything concrete will come of their actions except for them disrupting people who cannot do anything to remedy their plight.

All that is happening is that there is a growing animosity against them for their behaviour.
