Angry residents of Gomora informal settlement in Hercules, Pretoria have taken to the streets to protest over a lack of service delivery.

Police spokesperson Captain Augustinah Selepe said about 250 protesters blocked Brummer and Van Der Hoff Streets.

"The street is blocked with burning plastic bins, vehicle tyres and stones. It is alleged that Tshwane Municipality promised them a school, RDP houses... and running water," said Selepe.

She added that the protesters were demanding the mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa to address them on failure to deliver services.

No attacks or damage to property has been reported.

Tshwane Metro Police spokesperson Senior superintendent Isaac Mahamba said the protesters closed the Daaspoort tunnel, advising motorists to avoid it.

"The situation is still very tense. Schools have been disrupted and roads remain closed. Motorists should use alternative routes," said Mahamba.

We would rather protest for 100 years more then simply vote for change and hope for a better life.

True definition of madness - "Doing the same thing over and over and hoping for a different outcome"

Yea, kids had to stay home today as school is in the area and closed.

Drive past that informal settlement daily.

Yeah, you would have to check with that interactive voting map from the last elections and see who the winning party was, might not be ANC.

Best result I could find:

This is the voting ward:

http://www.tshwane.gov.za/sites/about_tshwane/MapsAndGIS/Wards2011Municipalelection/ward 55.pdf

And these were the results from 2011:

ANC got 18% of the vote, DA got 70%, but that's for the whole ward.
