CAPE TOWN – Protesting University of Cape Town (UCT) students tried to occupy a building on campus last night.

The group of students was prevented from entering the Steve Biko Student Union Building yesterday afternoon.

The building was secured with new locks and private security were placed at entrances to ensure the group did not reoccupy the building.

UCT’S Gerda Kruger says: “They stormed the building, breaking doors and windows and the security tried to protect the building by forming a human chain but it was breached and several of the students entered the building. Several petrol bombs were also thrown, starting fires in some of the parking areas.”

Every single student involved in that action should be expelled.

Of course that won't happen because they will just play the victim.

how the hell are these people still allowed to attend any educational facility.
Ban them all from any form of tertiary education

We can just be glad that these law abiding students are so peaceful and civilised.

Its becoming more obvious every day that the only solution that will ultimately work is to shut the varsities down, secure them with the police and live ammo.

The problem is that at most only 10% of them are students, the rest is just people joining their cause.

I bet they're not even students

Not even. That would mean their would be 2500 protesters at UCT when in reality the most their has ever been is about 300; 500 at a stretch.

I'm glad classes are resuming.

Time to play hard ball with these thugs, it's long ever due. It's either class or fusk off to the hole you came from.

Shutting down the varsities is exactly what the criminals what. The police should just man up and jail any student that so much as look at a rock funny for public violence and keep then in jail.

I am aware its what they want...

But I reckon 2 weeks of complete shut down with shoot to kill orders for any person found on premises would resolve the problem permanently.

Jail, in my opinion, is no longer an option for this lot. They are hellbent on destroying the future of this country so I feel we should not have to pay to keep them in jail.. we should either exile them or shoot them.

Exile is a bit harsh don't you think?

I would say "blacklist" so they can not join any educational facility in SA

Exile is actually not harsh enough for the impact on many hundreds of thousands of peoples future these criminals are causing.

At this point treason charges with 10+ year jail terms is the way to go.

They are destroying critical infrastructure and causing long term damage to the country.

Don't give them the violent response they are provoking but use the law to punish them and act as a deterrant for anyone thinking of following in their footsteps.
