Protests in Sandton this week and weekend

What in the world is going on here,no pro-Palestine protest and then an SACP one and then Egyptian ones....the only one that makes sense to me at this point is the Somali one if its against Xenophobia.

And then they all are at the same place.:erm:

Please note the following protest action / gathering approved by Sandton SAPS this coming week.

Friday, 12th June 2015 – outside Benmore Shopping Centre, cnr Grayston Drive and West Street (10h00 – 14h00) – Anti Palestine group
Saturday, 13th June 2015 – outside Benmore Shopping Centre, cnr Grayston Drive and West Street (10h00 – 14h00) – Pro Egyptian group
Sunday, 14th June 2015 - outside Benmore Shopping Centre, cnr Grayston Drive and West Street (10h00 – 14h00) – Anti Egyptian group

SAPS and JMPD will be present to manage onsite at these gatherings. Sandton Central team will also be on site to monitor and report.

Avoid, folks.

um it isn't SAPS that "approve" the Responsible Officer (an official unfortunately in the JMPD which isn't what the Act envisages) can "prohibit" a gathering if it can't be conducted peacefully
presumably - looking at the gatherings involved a big ass section 4 meeting (s4 of the Regulation of Gatherings Act) took place and it was decided to give out a schedule

but then again my views are just that of a "so-called legal expert"

I'd imagine its difficult to prove in advance that it won't be conducted peacefully so no real option for blocking it

You'll be amazed at the amount of bull**** is used by municipalities to prohibit that isn't part of the Act. This is where section 6 kicks in and you get a court order.

The real question lies in the intent of the organizers and the extent to which they co-operate to make every effort to promote the peace.

You'll be amazed at how a little good will and integrity will prevent a riot

Why is there a US consulate in Sandton if the embassy is in Pretoria.

Consulates are located where it is in the country's consular objective interests. Embassies usually located at the seat of government. US businesses and tourists in SA more likely to acquire consular assistance in Sandton - especially in trade

consulates are in the major cities (jhb, dbn & ct)
us consulate and foreign commercial service used to be located in the carlton centre years back.

the facility in sandton was built along with the ron brown commercial service building in illovo - and they moved north - along with most business.
