At 7:30am on Friday morning eTV's 'morning edition' spoke to some guy from Proudly South African. Viewers could phone in with their questions.

I called in and questioned Telkom's membership of PSA, given what their prices are doing to our economy, and the number of people they have retrenched (and plan yet to retrench) over the past few years. I got a couple of good shots at Telkom. I asked PSA if they had any criteria about PSA membership, and said that because Telkom is a member it seems like PSA takes anyone on board who is willing to pay the membership fee.

I mentioned that this issue of Telkom's membership on PSA had been brought up on "the internet forum" MyAdsl.co.za, as well as Antitrust.co.za and Hellkom.co.za...... but they cut me off at this point :) I think I got to say "MyADSL.co.za" before they cut me....

Anyway, at least I got a good strike in at Telkom, as I spoke for over a minute and half.

The PSA guy's response? He labelled me "unproudly South African". Ha ha, how fascist!

Proud of you - you Unproudly South African person !
Imagine that - somebody who actually cares enough to complain [and raise awareness] in public - that's not what a South African does. How dare you !

y would they cut u off?? does this mean that etv is also under the strangle hold of telskum? etv is always the one(according to their ads) to promote freedom of speech .. so y cut you off when u expressing ur view?
I bet u that the PSA guy labelled u "unproudly South African" and did not really answer your question!
Geez .. everyday ... something new to make me wonder what I am still doing in this country :(

I think they cut me off because I mentioned websites.... and it's not really cool to try grab some free advertising (which is why I left mentioning the sites until I felt I had said my piece). Also I had spoken for quite a long time, I don't think eTV cut me off because they wanted to censor what I was saying about Telkom.

The eTV host actuallt went out of her way to reiterate what I had said by questioning the PSA guy ("Well what do you think about what Debbie said about PSA allowing a company like Telkom, which has retrenched thousands of people, to be a member of PSA?" "What can you say to Debbie's claim that PSA doesn't have criteria for job creation?" etc etc).

It seemed like the PSA guy was familiar with complaints about Telkom being a member of PSA - you know how people smile when they are put in a difficult position? The guy contradicted himself in a big way, on the one hand saying that they do have standards, but on the other hand saying that for the first three years of PSA they have indeed kinda let just anyone on board. He didnt do a very good job of asserting the credibility and integrity of the PSA brand.

kewl :) ... and well done debbie :) .... would really like to see this clip .. anyone got it?

Me too - wish I had known it was on. I suppose one would need a "information driven society" to expect people to be notified of this type of thing. Oh well.

Anyway, good on ye Debbie2.

well imo, they should rename PSA to SSA - Shamely South African...there's nothing proud of what they do by admitting Telkom in it coz of their ability to provide 500K a year. PSA companies still rip us off and lay ppl off and there's nothing to be proud abt that

Top shot Debbie !!!.

The PSA is like the Olympic Bid Commitee we had ... just another money making racket and for a few people to catch some PR.

It is wonderful that we stand together like this. We have a New South Africa :-) maybe we should have a New Proudly South Africa run by us :D

Somebody actually phoned me to have a look at this discussion on etv when he heard Debbie phone in. You are a celeb Debbie! Good job! :)
