I have been using a Siemens Gigaset S685IP for more than a year with no hassles. Now all of a sudden I get "provider registration failed" although I have not touched any settings.

I did set up port forwarding on my router for some other applications but I am not sure if the problems with my phone started then or later. I have now set up port forwarding for SIP, STUN and RTP with no joy.

I have tried resetting the base station and setting up the VOIP account again. I don't know what else to do.

Disconnect Siemens and try a softphone with same settings. If softphone works, then you know the problem is the Siemens.
Remove all port forwarding on router and try again, maybe one of the ports you forwarded is 5060, which is a Sip port.

If you changed ADSL modem, you may need to disable the SIP ALG on the new modem. Particularly for Billion, Netgear and D-Link modems.
If not, try reboot the ADSL modem (to clear NAT tables).

Yeah the softphone on my phone is fine. It goes through the same modem (which is the same as it's always been) whether the SIP, RTP and STUN ports are forwarded or not.

My Siemens still can't register and I don't know what else to do to.

Yeah the softphone on my phone is fine.

Compare the settings between softphone and Siemens. Contact your Sip Provider, for more info on the packets you send.
Maybe it is something small your overlooking.

I've compared the settings and they are all perfect. the thing is that the phone was working then it just stopped- without any changes at all.

I'll perhaps contact MWeb but I'm still trying just to get them to respond to requests form 6 months ago!

Time for a new provider, especially seeing they haven't responded to requests for 6 months that is totally unacceptable.

It should be possible to phone their support and get them to do a SIP trace to see how far the call gets.

If you have the technical background, you can also download an IP tracing programme (such as wireshark) and (if you have your pc on the same subnet) capture the SIP interaction to check for authentication etc.
