We recently got ADSL and we use a proxy server for our mail, using software called Winproxy. We can download mail from the outside but we cannot send mail out. I know Winproxy is the problem because I tried using Outlook 98 on the mail server and I was able to send mail out. Unfortunately we need to use Winproxy to distribute the incoming mail. We run a simple LAN network. Any suggestions on how to get around this problem.

hmmm - why post a proxy product problem to an adsl forum? sounds like you need to go back to your winproxy source...

Well, yeah, you've got a few options here. You'll probably need to set up your winproxy to use Telkom's SMTP server, but if you can't find that option, and you have an ADSL router (plugged in via ethernet) you can simply enable NAT on the router... that will allow all the traffic from your pcs on the LAN to be routed through it... otherwise get another smtp server: ArgoSoft Mail Server Lite is freeware, and you can use that to get your mail to the outside. It's also very easy to set up.

"cannot send mail out" is a bit of a generic description of what the problem might be since it does not say what happens when you try and send mail out. Are your mail clients unable to connect to winproxy, does your mail go past the proxy but then gets bounced back, is winproxy configured to use your adsl line etc. etc.

mbs is correct that it seems to be product problem (rather than ADSL)but what the heck, if you need help, you should ask.

Cheers,
Vincent
