Hi there folks

I have 10 users in my office and they are killing my ADSL..... they need internet access but only to certain sites...... had to buy 3 top-ups this month allready.

Does anyone know of a FREE PROXY server utility, with white-list and blocked sites that I can use

Please advise

Cheers:(

i have one but its only a free trail if your still interested?

As said before - Smoothwall or IPCop.

A properly set up Smoothwall/IPCop proxy server will enable you to keep track of bandwidth usage.

You can also control which web sites they're able to visit with the Dansguardian/URL Filter mod.

You sure your users aren't downloading torrents? Because nothing chomps cap up quicker than torrents can.

You will need a spare PC to act as the firewall, because Smoothwall or IPCop is a dedicated firewall, and not a software firewall which you can install and run on Windows. Fortunately, you won't need a high-end PC, an 800MHz PC with 256Mb RAM and 10Gb HDD will suffice.

You can also try Ccproxy, it not free but should do the job. The trial allows 3 users.

You can run IPCop on MS Virtual PC under Windows. Although this is not a good long term solution (a separate box is much better), it is good enough for testing purposes and to see if IPCop will do what you want.

Maybe run each user in their own VM box with IPcop on the main OS?

Is it possible to use smoothwall/ipcop along with my linksys and your script for splitting traffic. I want to leave my linksys setup as is, then in smoothwall or ipcop just set it to use the linksys as the gateway, the all users are to connect through the smoothwall/ipcop. Is this type of setup possible?

On my ipcop/sw machine i'll hav one nic (green network), or will I still need to install another, my linksys will still handle the pppoe connections so i'm not sure if it is required.

Why not split the traffic with IPcop it does a much better job because it will download all the latest local routes from the IS server.

There is step by step instructions on the forum just search for it.

How can I use IPcop and ISA 2006 in the same network. We are looking for bandwidth monitoring software but I don't wnat to throw out the ISA 2006.

My Linksys also downloads all the latest routes, using Gatecrashers script, it works quite well and I do want to change that.

What exactly does ISA do for you? I am asking this because that reason might make the difference in whether ipcop should be infront or behind ISA.
