Hi.
What are Telkom's proxy address's for
HTTP, FTP, SOCKS 3+4+5 and DNS ?
I searched thier website and emailed tech support but haven't found anything usefull. Im capped at the moment and will will try anything to get a drop more of speed.

Thanks
Jason

you are by default behind a transparent proxy from saix, you wont get faster speed entering their actual proxy adress.

If you dont mind paying a small fee, check out our services it might be for you.

Do a search on Google for open proxies. Find one in SA and punch in the details. I have to do this almost every month and it works OK. Some proxies are faster than others so your will have to play around with them. You are only capped on international bandwidth not local.

I use the following site to find the proxies but there are loads more.

Good luck.

Hi

There are tons of proxies in SA which can easily be tapped into and sucked dry, but there is an ethical problem here. Most of them are run by inexperienced techies who doesn't realise that their BW is being siphened off and if too many people start using the proxy it basically kills it.

The question you have to ask yourself is whether it is okay to steal from somebody who isn't looking. Would they allow you to continue using the proxy if they found out you were?

The best thing to do would be to ask a friend or perhaps the company you work for. I did this a while ago and the network admin gave me permission.

If you have a friend with ADSL and he has extra BW, you can always share a username and password. Only do this if you guys trust each other. If your username and password gets out, it is a mess and you will have to change the password online (which is now easier than it used to be  )

If your friend is already using all his allocated passwords, ask him to install PRIVOXY when can be found online at www.sourceforge.net and simply use his PC as the proxy. Easy as pie. He can even use something like www.no-ip.info to make it easy for you to find the proxy.

Cheers
Ant
