If anyone knows of proxy services that can be used from the ADSL subnet to help speed up HTTP services (and perhaps other services) before and after the 3Gb cap, please post them here.

The best one that i have found so far was 196.25.223.49 port 8080
still being very slow it provides u with a ablity to atleast surf international sites slowely yet it gets u somewere hope it helps

According to Arin, the IP address specified is assigned as follows.

Lowveld Business Machines LOWVELD-BUS (NET-196-25-223-0-1)
196.25.223.0 - 196.25.223.63

If at first you can't download, try and then try again...

Sorry for the maybe stupid question but how do you connect to that proxy???I am really sorry if this question might sound stupid![:I]

Right click on Internet Explorer, PROPERTIES>CONNECTIONS>LAN SETTINGS, and then fill in the bottom field with the IP address.

So heres my Aida32 report for network settings.

Its states proxy status is disabled but lan proxy is enabled... Does this mean it aint really using the proxy or am I blind.

Internet Settings:
Current Proxy:
Proxy Status Disabled

LAN Proxy:
HTTP Proxy Server 196.25.223.49\:8080
HTTPS Proxy Server 196.25.223.49\:8080
FTP Proxy Server 196.25.223.49\:8080
Gopher Proxy Server 196.25.223.49\:8080
Socks Proxy Server 196.25.223.49\:8080

i'm having a hell of a time trying to find a proxy that works better than sapped adsl...

any hints as to WHERE and HOW i may go about finding one?

fugging cap...

Two questions:

1) Have anyone tried www.nocap.co.za with success before?

2) How do you get the proxy to work before the capping? My IP stays the same when, for instance, I enter a chat room. It only changes to the IP I assign after the capping.

Thanks [:D]

Anyone know any good proxy's that work or any other method whereby I could at least browse an international page at 3kb/s or so (WITHOUT PAYING :D )

What change to the "IP you assign?" You can't just assign an IP on the internet, it is giving to you via DHCP. Do you understand how the proxy thing works? You simply set it up in the application you need to use it, Internet Explorer, or your IRC client.

it seems to me that this search for good local free proxys has become , a failure , unfotunetly only telkom can help us now , hay but why should they .

I believe we have no choise but to keep searching for viable proxies...
Have anyone looked at www.nocap.co.za recently?

The box said to install Win95 or better, so I installed Linux

Uhh... It's not legal (in terms of convergence bill etc) to arbitrarily use an open proxy server, so just watch out for that one.

Very funny Scotty. Now beam down my pants!!

I believe you can use a Virtual Private Network to connect your home ADSL connected PC to your office network. That is if they allow it. Thus you can use your office's international bandwidth when you are capped... The easiest way (if you do not have another option) is to buy extra bandwidth... But why take the fun out of hacking out another way... [;)]

Does that work after being capped? I'd be surprised...

I did find it speeds up some downloads to use dsl-cache.saix.net while not capped. Well, it made a download from the tucows saix mirror go faster, anyway :)
