i need some serious help guys. i recently purchased a ps2 slimline and registered it on playstation2.com and i finally received my network access disk (nad). i've been trying to hook my ps2 up to the internet using internet connection sharing (ics) because i already have a usb adsl modem and i dont feel like forking out 600 bucks or so for an adsl router. so requirements : ps2 (check), pc with usb adsl modem connected to the internet (check), crossover cable (check), nad (check). i enable ics on my internet connection, connect my computer to the internet, then i hook up my ps2 to my computer using the crossover cable, and i insert the nad into the ps2 and create a new profile, but when i run the network diagnostic tools it cant even establish a network connection  . anyone who has successfully set up ics and ps2, please give me step by step instructions, i'm really about to cry now coz the main reason i got this ps2 was to play online games. i even have half a dozen of them, juz waiting to be played ;)

In all honesty and IMO - buy the router - you'll be happier in the long run and not just for the ps2.

try the in game network setup.. you dont really need the NAD

I have an ADSL router, but it should setup pretty much the same.

My slimline didn't come with a NAD disk (or I didn't register for it) you can set it up within the game itself (using NFSU as a reference)

Don't use DHCP on the settings of your PS2 (because you're not connecting to a router, you're connecting to your PC which goes through the USB ADSL Modem)

So if your PC is setup to be 192.168.0.1 (which it should if you have ICS on) you setup your PS2 to have an IP address of 192.168.0.2. Setup it's gateway as 192.168.0.1 and it's DNS (if it asks) as 192.168.0.1

You should be able to connect, but trust me, make life easier for yourself and buy a router. The router has built in DHCP, you just setup your PC and PS2 to use DHCP and it's plug and play. No special config nothing.

You can even hook up more PC's if you want without any hassle.

But with ICS your computer with the internet connection becomes a DHCP server, so using DHCP should work, although I'd still try getting it to work with a Static IP.

Maybe its your computer's firewall interfering?

thanx guys, got it working. t'was my firewall. cant be too safe these days ;)

MAke sure you keep the firewall up on the internet side if possible. Just drop it on the Lan connection.

thats where my next problem arises... i can allow the lan thru my firewall, but then, i think, when my ps2 makes requests from the internet, when replies come thru i think my firewall regards these as attacks (because my computer didnt make the requests) and doesnt let them thru. i'm using zone alarm. can someone tell me how to get past this? more

Oi, zone alarm sucks.

Seriously dude, get yourself a router, much less trouble. Router has built in firewall etc
