I've got some questions regarding the quality of the PS2 image when it's connected to a LCD monitor. I know that the PS2 games runs at a lower resolution (which would result in jaggies) but that's not the problem.

I currently have my PS2 connected via my PCI TV-Tuner to my Philips 19 inch 4:3 LCD (1280x1024). The problem however is that I obviously have to sit really close or else I can't see a thing and secondly the image is dark/blurry/...it's just hard to see what's going on. I know that this is not due to the resolution of the PS2 since I can run a old PS1 game via Emulator and it looks fine.

I'm thinking of getting a HDTV and was just wondering if the same issue will persist.

P.S. I know the best option would be a CRT based TV but since those things emit a extremely high pitch transformer sound I can't even get close to those things.

Technically the ps2 can run certain games in HD if it is supported e.g i was able to play gt4 @ 1080i on my lcd and it looked awesome back then ! ur problem is that u are not running it directly to the monitor ! i still have my dreamcast and playing it on my pc monitor usually results in sharper gfx (the same applied to the ps2)

So what you're saying is .....it's the TV-Tuner? I was also expecting the image to be sharper (including jaggies) but like I mentioned...it's pretty dark and fluffy/soft. The only thing that kinda messes up this theory is that DVD's played directly on the PS2 (via the Tuner on the PC) looks pretty much the same as playing it directly on the PC via PowerDVD.

OK....I've read about 2 zillion different posts on forums all over the net and everywhere I go people tell me something else so let's see if I have better luck here...

I'm planning on connecting a Slim PS2 (90000 Model) to a Samsung (I heard it's best for SD scaling) 32" HDTV from which I'll be viewing at about 2M away.

The PS2 will be connected via Component cables. Setting in PS2 system menu will be 16:9 + component + progressive (for the DVD's).

I know that mostly 98% of all PS2 games (especially PAL) will only support 480i).

The folks on the other forums seems to misunderstand me...I don't want PS2 to run HD since I'm fully aware that neither the games or the hardware was created with that in mind. (Besides the 1 or 2 titles that support 1080i or whatever). I just want it to look similar as to what it does on a standard CRT Telly. Is that possible.
