What about using an external hard drive?
The nice thing about the hard drive is that you don't need to wear out your laser and you dont need to chip it. All you need is someone willing to install the ps1 mem card exploit onto a PS1 memory card for you, then start up the machine with a PS1 CD and bob's your auntie - you can then copy your legit games to hard drive and load them from there...

Thanks for your reply. If doing it the HDD way, i prob need HDLoader and an external HDD Bay that connects VIA USB. I heard that if you run games off the HDD, the loading times are much slower because the USB Interface is USB 1.1  ? And even going the HDD way, i still need the exploit.

I found a link that shows you how to exploit your PS2, but in order for me to do this i need an Alreadt Exploited PS2, so if someone in Bloemfontein have one, and wouldnt mind helping me, then that would be great.

Hi Mate. Thnx for your response. I might be buying a XBOX360, so if i dont, ill def take you up on your offer.Thnx :)

Does the exploit work well with all PS2 games?

Hi, im not sure how this exploit works. If i have the PS1 exploit on the memcard, what do i do with it then?Thnx for helping me with this :o

Hi guys, not sure if any1 still reading this thread, but...

Im new to this "PS2: Loading games off Hard Drive" stuff.

Can any1 explain what I need and where to get it like you explaining to a 3 year old kid. I dont understand all this "exploits" and stuff like that :o

Thanks in advance :) ;)

Do you have a slimline machine? If so, it's not an easy job - best done by a pro - i.e. pay someone to do it... If you have an older one, you can buy a kit. There is the USB option, but it is slow and video stutters...

This is what I sent Defcon 5

"Anyways, I have a PS2 PAL Console (SCPH30004), very old console I know.
Used to play copy games fine for the last 4 years, unfortunately the problems are starting now...

Most copy games simply do not play, and last night I had problems with my ORIGINAL UEFA CL 2006/2007 game
I’m sure the laser has packed up.
I was thinking of getting a hard drive solution for the PS2, but I’m not sure as to what I need exactly.

Can you guys supply the necessary hardware / software (including a hard drive) along with instructions as to how to go about installing and using the equipment?"

This is what they say:

"Hi, unfortunately Sony have stopped making the network adapters. I will see with my next overseas order whether I can get more or not.. The last selling price was R 500.00.

The network adapter is all you need, since you have a mod-chip you do not need to buy the HDLoader software, but can use the homebrew version."

Speedy reply from the dudes at Defcon 5... now whats a homebrew version?

You need not buy the HDLoader software, it is available for download on Defcon 5's site as well as on other sites (find them using google). The only problems I've encountered with HDLoader is that some games can't be run directly from the drive, an example of which is Silent Hill 3; this can be overcome by finding the necessary patches but it can become quite a pain.

On the upside; until I got a PS3, I used my PS2 to play DivX/Xvid movies and MP3's from my PC using the network adapter, I found my PS2 very useful with the ethernet adapter.

Will this work on a slimline PS2 (which includes ethernet)?
