How do I go about setting up my PS3 to play through a 5.1 Surround sound system. My PS3 is currently only connected to TV via HDMI cable
Rather go Optical to receiver. and HDMI straight to TV. Some receivers mess-up the HDMI tv signal in passthrough. Just my opinion.
And if you have more than 2 devices? There is usually only one optical and one coax port. Optical is not the way to go. Invest upfront in a decent AV receiver that does HDMI repeating (or audio return), even if it means that you can only afford the start with a set of stereo floor standing speakers. Then save up for the surround speakers and sub. If your budget is around R10k, then you can even get everything in one go.
