I bought myself a PS3 and Sony 40" Full HD LCD recently.

I have set my PS3 to 1080p for resolution and have only been playing games on it so far.
I want to see what a Blue Ray movie looks like but was wondering about the Audio connection.

Honestly, I don't have the best surround sound system (4yr old Pioneer) but the way I connected it was through the HDMI cable connected to the TV and then a normal RCA cable from my TV to my Amp. Is that the best way to get sound or is there a better way, with my current Amp or buying a new surround sound system?

What you need to do is,

If your amp has optical in, then set the playstation to send the video via the HDMI to the Telly and send the audio via the optical cable directly to the amp.

Or if your amp has no optical input, then use the standard RCA cables that came with the console, and set the PS3 to send the audio via the RCA cables directly to the amp.

The first option is the better choice,

thats what i have done and its 5.1, and it sounds great.

You're not going to get full surround through RCA's? Unless of course you're talking of 6 seperate RCA outputs, which the PS3 hasn't got.

Two RCA's is going to give Dolby Pro Logic (II) which isn't discrete and has other limitations.

like churchill says, use the optical to connect to your amp for 5.1 sound

Cool, will see if there is optical-in on my amp (I actually think there might be) but did not even think of using the RCA straight to the amp.
The RCA, if I remember corectly is on 1 end RCA and on the other that Playstation connection?
