PS3 Controller only works when plugged in

What could the issue be? I've tried resetting the controller but it does not work.

It works when its plugged in and seems to be charging, but soon as I unplug, the controller switches off.

Sounds like u have got a bad battery there.
Changing circuit could also be faulty.

any idea how to fix it, or will I have to fork out for a new controller?

U could try opening it up and test the battery, or send it to a PS3 repair dude and let them have a look.
Not sure if it is a replaceable battery or if it is soldered into place.

The cost of replacing the battery and the associated labour would make buying a new controller more feasible.

Do you occasionally get upset with the game and smash the controller on the ground?
