Hi Guys,

PS3 gave me the YLOD last night. Does partserve still replace units out of warranty, and if so, does anyone know what the going rate is at the moment. If you do a swap, what do you need to give them? Just the unit or the controllers too?

There's a guy on here that does consoles. He'll hopefully pop in soon.

You cold take it to btgames for repairs will probably cost around about R750-R1500.Not sure if it's worth it.

What causes YLOD, failure to hardware devices and can one fix it yourself ?

I used DefCon5 (http://www.defcon5.co.za) to repair my PS3 a couple of weeks ago.

The other option is QuickFlow IT - http://www.quickflowit.co.za

Not sure where you are located but both are in Pretoria.

Thanks for the info. Looks like a replacement/refurb will cost R1400. I might look at just getting a new unit on a special coz my one controller is also a bit dodgy.

Will keep an eye open for specials.

Game has a speciall on for 2999 320gb slim 2 ds controllers and GT5

Reball the GPU for R900 (excluding overnight return shipping) with a 3 month warranty. That is the proper fix for YLOD!
