With a co-op game on Ps3, is it possible to output the split to 2 screens, instead of one split screen? Games that split vertical are fine, but playing horizontal on a widescreen sucks! Not sure if it's possible?

Nope.
1. The PS3 hardware does not support dual screen output. Even if it did, the RSX will probably not be able to handle it.
2. The Dual screen output will also need to be coded in the game itself.

Before the launch of the PS3 it was said it would support dual HD screens... But alas it did not make it to the final hardware...

Hope it is a feature that makes it to the next gen of consoles. Guess they figure not many (any) people would want/have two TV sets to attach to the console and therefore rather save on the cost of a more powerfull GPU and additional output.

Thinking bout it, I would not want to have another TV in my living room, not at the current set's size, so the only way this would be usefull is for people attaching smaller screens. Would still have the problem of your opponent watching your screen in COD ;) .. but for racing and other and maybe even co-op it would be pretty cool to have the ability to attach 2-4 screens :D

It would take enormous power to do that. A lot of games already run poorly (though super casual gamers won't notice) just in split-screen.

i am a noob at pretty much all of this but i heard from somewhere that if you connect to ps3's with a Ethernet cable then it is possible to run split screen/ cop-op on 2 tv's!!

is that even true??

i mean it does suck that you would need 2 consoles and 2 games but i mean if a friends got one it could be done right?

If the game supported system link/ lan or setting up a game via the internet, yes, but then you need that second game disc :(
